Come back to yourself: the daily practice that changes everything

Last week I was preparing my pitch for a Pitch Day and I realised that we are so involved in otside world that brings us to disconnect with own body that sometimes can cause physical and mental complains. So, I want to go deeper in this article in the topic of contact with yourself.

There is one relationship you carry into every room, every decision, every conversation, and every chapter of your life. It is the relationship you have with yourself. And yet, for many people, it is the relationship that gets the least attention.

We check our phones before we check our feelings. We answer messages before we ask what we need. We chase goals, approval, productivity, and success—while quietly losing touch with the person underneath it all.

Then one day, we wonder why life feels heavy.

Why the relationship feels wrong.

Why the job looks good on paper but drains the soul.

Why we keep saying yes when every part of us is begging for no.

The answer is often simple: we are disconnected from ourselves.

Not broken. Not failing. Just disconnected. And the way back does not require a dramatic life change. It begins with a few honest moments every day.

What it really means to connect with yourself

Connecting with yourself means learning to listen inward.

It means noticing what you feel instead of rushing past it. It means paying attention to your body instead of treating it like a machine. It means asking better questions:

What do I need today? What is this emotion trying to show me?Where do I feel alive?Where am I forcing myself? What feels true, even if it is inconvenient?

When you know yourself, you make better decisions. You stop outsourcing your worth. You become less available for relationships, habits, and environments that pull you away from who you really are.

You stop living by accident.

The cost of ignoring yourself

Disconnection rarely arrives loudly.

It shows up as constant self-doubt. A harsh inner voice. Anxiety that never fully leaves. Repeating the same unhealthy patterns. Feeling empty even after achieving something you thought would make you happy.

You may look successful on the outside and still feel lost inside.

That happens when your life is built around performance instead of truth.

When you disconnect from yourself, you start making choices from fear, guilt, habit, or expectation. You become easier to influence. You keep moving, but not necessarily in the right direction.

The good news: you can rebuild that connection.

Not someday.

Today.

Start with a morning check-in

Before the world gets access to you, give yourself access to you.

Take two minutes in the morning and ask:

How does my body feel? What emotion is present? What is my energy like? What do I need from myself today?

You do not need perfect answers. You only need honesty.

This small ritual trains you to begin the day from awareness instead of autopilot.

Dedicate first morning time to connect with your body, awake it, may be gentle somatic exercise or a walk or yoga. I like doing meditation in the morning, it gives me possibility to prime myself. May be you can find your own way of priming yourself.

It is great to have morning rituals that help you to connect with yourself, awake and prime yourself.

Listen to your emotional triggers

Your triggers are not random. They are information.

When something hurts, irritates, embarrasses or activates you, pause before judging yourself. Ask what the feeling is pointing to.

The goal is to understand the story underneath them.

Every strong reaction contains a clue. Follow the clue with curiosity.

Follow your energy

Your energy tells the truth before your mind builds an argument!

Notice what expands you. Notice what drains you. Notice what you keep avoiding, and notice what quietly calls you forward.

This does not mean every good decision will feel easy. But there is a difference between meaningful effort and constant inner resistance.

Some things require discipline. Other things require you to stop betraying yourself.

Let your body speak

Your body is always communicating.

Tension. Fatigue. Ease. Tightness. Restlessness. Calm. These are not inconveniences to ignore. They are signals.

Pay attention to how your body responds in certain places, around certain people, and during certain decisions. Does your chest tighten? Does your breathing soften? Do you feel grounded, or do you feel like you are bracing?

Your body often recognizes safety, misalignment, desire, and discomfort before your conscious mind can explain them.

Treat your body like a wise advisor.

Practice doing nothing

This may be the hardest part.

Sit quietly. No phone. No task. No performance. No need to improve yourself.

Just be.

At first, your mind may protest. It may tell you that you are wasting time. That you should be productive. That there are more important things to do.

But stillness is not empty.

Stillness is where you begin to hear what has been buried under noise.

Even five minutes a day can reconnect you with your inner world and clarity returns. Your real voice becomes easier to recognize.

Create a simple reflection practice

You can journal. Record voice notes. Write down dreams. Track patterns. Keep a short list of what you noticed about yourself each day.

The method matters less than the commitment.

Reflection turns experience into insight. It helps you see what your busy mind misses. It gives your inner life a place to land.

Try ending the day with three questions:

What did I feel today?Where did I abandon myself?Where did I honor myself?

So begin today.

Take 5 minutes of sitting in silence. Ask one honest question. Listen for one real answer.

Your life does not change only when you do something bigger.

Sometimes it changes when you finally stop leaving yourself behind.
